New X5 Extras-Adaptive Drive, Comfort Seats etc

Hi Chaps,
A mate is upgrading from a 2.0d X3 to a X5 3.0d (single turbo model-the twin turbo is not an option due the lack of availability of low sulphur diesel in the country he's in).
Primary complaints with the X3 were lack of poke and firm ride.
So I said he better get the Adaptive Drive and Comfort Seats (front).
He's moaning that the options are expensive and that maybe he will be overspeccing the car and losing allot come trade in time.
I told him compromising on the comfort of the car is a false economy and that these extras should make it a faster seller come reslale time. Who wants a second hand X5 with no extras?? Why buy a top of the range SUV and skimp on the luxuries-IMO when buying this cars (along with all other German cars) one should consider the 'standard' model as 'incomplete' and some extras are not really optional, especially on the larger 'luxury' models.
Also on my list of recomendations are:
19inch wheels. It simply looks shite on 18's-the car is huge and even 19's look a bit small.
Panoramic Roof. (maybe a bit OTT.)
3 spoke Sports Steering (Multi Funtion). Cheap option and looks and feels great.
Storage Pack-nothing worse than an big car with no storage places eh?
6 CD changer
Xenons-can't believe it's an option!!
Aluminium side runners.
Some things I told him to avoid:
Head up display is not needed as he is not on the UK and does not need the speedo plastered over the windscreen!
Adaptive Headlights are very expensive for what they do.
4 zone climate control is an overkill-the usual climate control has always worked a treat.
So my questions are
-anyone have these options on their car?
-any opinions on the Adaptive Drive-is a load of bull or will it improve the ride handling?
-are the standard seats good/bad/ugly? Are the comfort seats worth it?

You didnt tell us where this guy is, but certainly for the uk, the must haves are
dynamic pack (19s, leather, sports suspension, sports seats)
media pack (nav, 6 disk changer, bluetooth)
Those are 'must haves'. do not buy an x5 without those as a minimum.
Adaptive suspension is a further £2150 and i think it would be dead money, providing he does the dynamic pack. Mine handles superbly on the dynamic pack suspension and the 20's.
20 inch rims add a further £900 or so, but look the business.
Aluminium running boards are probably a necessity too.
Ones that are up there as well are :-
electric front seats
xenons
On top of all those i went for :-
Reversing camera - very handy on something this big
Towbar - a real struggle to aftermarket fit
USB interface - excellent for ipod connection.
7 seat option.
Privacy glass.
That little lot added approx £11000 to the price of the car. :-(

Cheers for that. The car will be in South Africa. The sport suspension is a very big no no. The car needs to be comfortable, not overtly sporting hence I see the Adaptive Drive as useful-it will counteract body roll whithout having the firm 'sport' ride whne not pressing on.dynamic pack (19s, leather, sports suspension, sports seats)

20's not available there but I agree they look great.
What are the standard seats like? Have you sat in the comfort ones at all?

That is true. The man has had a few of those but simply does not want one. Instead he wants an X5 that will have a decent ride for what it is.Besides, it's not really an offroad car now is it....
This one, like most others will never see more than the average pot hole and occosional dirt road. Plenty of tar roads to get around on there.
However, a high vehicle like an X5 does offer a great advantage on the typical, fast, single-carriage road in SA. Most accidents are caused by lunatic overtakers-a high vehicle helps spot these nutters and also helps when you need to overtake an unroadworthy piece of shite that is travelling at 30mph on the a national road.
Re security. Guns arent offered by BMW yet, but as most citizens have a couple lying about already it's no big deal! They would make a fortune selling gun holders along with the cup holders though. Suprised BMW has missed this trick!
A special 'smash and grab' film will be fitted to the glass though. It is basically a clear tint but is stronger-supposed to prevent a brick coming through you window. Very nice for petty smash and grab thieves but no good against an armed car-jacker.
So anyone out there taken delivery and put on a few miles on similarly specced car?
