new brakes

I am considering doing a brake overhaul on the 330d, there just doesn't stop well enough.

I was going to go with new black diamond pads and disks all round.

The chap who is selling me the disks and pads suggests I get better brake fluid and hoses as well, what are these exactly? I know what the fluid is, but what about braided hoses or whatever? Are they worth getting?

I would recommend goodridge braided hoses, I fitted them to my car and you can feel the difference with the pedal, a cheap and very good mod for anyone to make.

If you want the Best forget the rest!! ok ,they're bloody exspensive [fitted on my own car] but hell yes , for the serious driver there is no better brake set up for a BmwFailing that try the S/s hoses

Mov'it brakes for the front. Better than AP and cheaper too.

There is Good(OEM)
Better ( performance brakes and apparently hoses/fluid)
and then best which is a full kit.

I want better I am not racing, merely want better from a safety point of view.

I did.....OE BMW drilled discs, OE Pads, Goodridge Hoses, Castrol Racing fluid on my 330. They were then just about ok, the A3's brakes are a million times better.

The money wasnt a factor on my brothers car as its a show car.



On his previous Bmw my03 330ci, he had mintex pads but said OEM were miles better!
Maybe try some OEM pads with grooved discs (I'd avoid drilled as have heard of them cracking in extreme cases!)
The braided hoses will make the pedal feel better too, also bleed your brakes and check the Master cylinder and servo are working ok!
Am not sure if the M3/M5 is different, but it could be a possible upgrade??

why would you spend that money on a brake kit and not even use it?

The cars a daily driver for him, just doesnt see he track or any sideways action. It had the 3 tvs, bbks, etc fitted when he bought it.

I had a front set of black diamond discs and pads on my 330D Sport, they were OK and a bit of an improvement over standard. I now have a Z4 3.0i and with this car I upgraded to EBC dimpled/grooved discs and Red Stuff pads, this combination is much stronger than the Black diamond set up, about £250 gets you the discs and pads and well recommended. I have done three track days this year and they just do not fade...

I have found very excessive disc wear when using EBC pads and you could expect to replace the discs every time you need pads.

I'm going to be changing the brakes on my 330 next week. Looking at getting Zimmerman discs, with I think it was pagid pads. Front and rear worked out at £300.

Zimmerman discs ie Shite I fitted some that I got from Euro Parts to my 525 a few years back they lasted only 10 months due to very bad distortion, & were replaced with Black Diamond , why they chos to call them black I'll never know, like all other discs they go Brown at the 1st sign of water.

Sorry, I ment to add they appear to be quite exspensive for what they are but definatly a good quality disc,a good mid range disc
