e30 2.7??

a guy local to me has a e30 coupe for sale for £1700 in matt black! seemed a lot i thought then noticed it was a 2.7??? is this an alpina engine. is it rare. sounds amzing, looks good, not mint, but just wondered what it actually was.

not sold in 8mths at that price so cant be too special!

It's possible to do a 2.7 conversion to an E30 325i using bits from the 325e engine.

or more commonly 525e. Which has a longer throw crank, so keeping the bore the same but increasing stroke. BMW Car mag and Performance mag have done articles on this and all seem to conflict over which piston/con rod combination to use, and skimming of the head. I think there are various ways to do this, from budget to wallet emptying, but it's safe to say that it gives the E30 much needed grunt at the bottom end. Les Stannard is a name to behold.

i used to race an E30 2.7, didn't know it at the time, but the extra torque was noticeable, a very good upgrade if ever there was one

Or he's stuck a C2 badge on it. If it's an Alpina engine, it's worth a lot more than a home-made 2.7. Phone/visit any BMW garage and ask them to look up the spec the car had when it left the factory.

Cool, let us know the outcome! Nice car if it is a C2, had around 210bhp.
If it's a budget homebuild 2.7 it's likely the power will be around 180-190bhp, not a bad increase on the factory 170bhp from the 2.5.

its for sale at £1700, been for sale for nearly a year! in a little village where generally only little old ladies will walk past on the way to the shop/bus

aarrrggghhh!! what a shame

firstly bmw couldnt find the car on their system. i went to look at the car to obtain a chassis number.

in the 6mths its stood the steering wheel and lovely leather seats have all gone mouldly, guess all the seals have gone what a shame such a nice car is now such a mess

alpina or not im steering well clear. is pretty rough close up!

not uncommon, and not a problem - a wipe with a damp cloth is all it needs.

Where is it? How old is it? I'd love to take a look at it just to see what sort of condition it's in.

I love older BMW's, I've had a couple of E30's, it's been a while so must be time for another one!

Just taken a look at this, not sure if I'd spend the best part of six grand on this particular C2. It looks a bit on the worn side, the seats would be easy enough to refresh. But if you look at the steering wheel piccie it looks to missing the entire underdash panel, and has a lovely looking silver ciggie lighter amongst other things. I'm also put off by the 'uprated stereo and speakers' and high flow exhaust etc.

It just shouts 'abused' at me. I'd want a good poke around the body and behind all that plastic too.

So do we have confirmation of genuine alpina? It's a shame it doesn't wear it's original colour, someone has obviously messed with it to paint it matt black! Fine if it floats your boat, but it didn't come from Buchloe (or Synter) like that!
