E46 Coupe wind noise

Drove 500 miles yesterday in my '02 330ci coupe with a constant whistle from the nearside front window at speeds above 70mph (it was a very long private test track...) My wife was trying to "adjust" the noise by prodding at the window seal but nothing she did made a difference. Does anyone know of a simple fix for this, or is it time for a new door/window rubber? The door shuts don't need adjusting - the shut lines are spot on. There's no noise at all from the drivers side window. Any clues or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
The way to test before adjusting windows etc is to buy masking tape(2 inch wide),and cover various contact areas..ie all glass shut area(top to bottom)gaps around mirror,the roof guttering and so on until the noise can be pin pointed-I normally find a dual carriage way with stopping points and keep adding tape till it goes.
Has it had a window regulator or door lock mechanism recently?
The window adjustment is not easy on these and is quite often set up incorrectly leaving a gap to the rear of the glass(near door lock button)and poor sealing near too mirror.
