Car turned away on delivery...

Finally get my 535d M touring delivered today. From 100 yards away I can see the bonnet is not secured properly - shut properly on offside, popped open on nearside. Just been transported 80 miles on a trailer in this state, delivery driver opens the bonnet then slams shut - shutline not level across the front of the car.

I look at him he looks at me and I say I aint signing for it take it back. He fully understands and back it goes.

This afternoon the bloke I've been dealing with at the dealership rings and says he hasnt looked at the car (thanks!) but his bodyshop man has and cant see anything wrong with it.

Now apart from why would I send a car back that I have waited for for ages if there was nothing wrong with it, what stance should I take with the dealership? Will the bonnet have been buggered by being transported like this?

PS He tried to blame the transport company for not putting the bonnet down properly! Why on earth would they open the bonnet to drive a car on to a trailer!

So much for the PDI check.

They do sometimes open the bonnets for trickle charging during shipping or when "parked" in the delivery lot - however it doesn't matter when you say it doesn't shut properly at all. Must have been damaged somewhere during shipping, can't see the car leaving the company like that. Feel sorry for you mate - hope it will turn out well in the end.

I drove a used E60 at 80mph wondering why the reflection on the bonnet shimmered until I realised that it was the bonnet latched on one side and not the other. No harm done as best I could tell and then did it on my own car a month later. But again no harm done. If there's an issue with the bonnet shut line it's not from it having been transported partially latched. Looks for signs of a front-end shunt.

Side note: because of the width of the bonnet it seems that it needs to be dropped from a few inches to make it latch properly; gently shutting it and then pushing down on the emblem is what caused my two partially latched bonnet incidents.

Mmm, lets see what they have to say tomorrow then. V peed off especially as I had to pay for head up display that broker mis-ordered and he forgot to add the USB!

Anyone want to buy a loaded 535 (apart fom USB!) at 14% discount?!

You can still a fully integrated ipod kit to your car but you will lose the 6 disc changer option. :-(

The new 5 has twin bonnet catches. Had same on my M5, bonnet looked all askew, just give it a good push and all will sort itself.

Interested in the ipod thingy you mentioned .. where do you get it from?
