Headlight fault not bulb E46 330

Has any body got any ideas what could be causing my head light fault (not lit on drivers side) the bulb is ok and I have only 8 volts at the plug. I have looked on the diagram and it shows that it goes directly into the lighting control unit, so there could be a bad conection, but I can't find the lighting contol unit. Can someone shed some light on this for me?

Main beam or dipped beam?

The LCM tries to be fairly clever - for example if the sidelight bulb within the headlamp assembly is out it will illuminate the indicator on that side constantly unless you indicate on that side in which case it will flash and then go back to steady when the indicator is cancelled. Check to make sure all the other bulbs are working correctly and properly seated.

The supply for the headlight comes from the LSZ (light switch center) control unit.That is basically the light switch that turns it on.Behind that switch is the control unit(all one piece)they quite often fail and cause poor outputs

Thanks for the info, how do I get at the control unit behind the light switch? I was also thinking that it might be an earth fault because when I checked the supply I only checked on the plug (8 volts) and did not check what I had between live and the body.

This may also be relivant, since I have had the car (10 mounths) I have had several bulbs blow, all rear lights. I was thinking that the voltage regulator on the alternator was probably a bit high, but may be it could be related to this lighting control module.

You prise the wood trim above the switch off.Behind that is 1 phillips screw-looks like one is missing but its not.Remove screw.
Then pull whole unit out-this bit is a fiddle and you end up pulling at an angle.Dont yank it though or the housing will break or the plastic locator on the dash.
You will also find the loom maybe tight.
Putting back is the same,a bit of a fiddle,but be patient and dont force it.

Check the rear bulb holder connectors,we have an issue with them burning at the earth pin,pops the bulbs and ments the plug.

Near to the headlamps are the multi earth splices bolted tothe inner wing,make sure they are done up-had a few which have had body repairs and they have been left undone.

Thanks a lot, I will have a look at these in the morning, I'm failly well clued up electrially as my job ia a machine tool electrician working on CNC machinery, its mainly the location of the various units etc. that I'm not familia with. Thanks again I'll let you know what I find.
