e36 ignition barrel

Bought a new barrel and steering lock assy, how do you fit the barrel ?. Tried putting the key in and turning to position one but it wouldn't click into place, even with the tag lined up.

You need a pin about 1mm.

If you look at where the key goes,between the black outer ring silver inner piece there is a small hole.If you put the key in and turn to position 1 the pin will slide in.On the new barrel you will also need to push the tab on the back in so the pin locates(you will see on the rear as you push in pin)

If you are still taking out the old one,and the key just turns or wont go to p1 then you need to drill and pick out the centre of the lock...Its slow but the only way without damaging the cloumn.

Cheers for the advice, managed to remove the old barrel as you say with a thin allen key, the advice I got was to replace the barrel and the steering lock assy as they both wear, so is it ok to fit the new barrel to the new body off the car, would probably be easier.
