6+ Scheme

At the PH show at the weekend, I spent a bit of time on the BMW Owners Club stand and was chatting to a guy on it.

We were talking about servicing and he mentioned that a dealer group had started up a variation of the 4+ service scheme, called 6+ - obviously for cars 6 years and older. This offered 50% servicing discounts.

Does anyone happen to know which MD it is that offers this?

I found it, and ironically, it's vaguely localish to me.

I got something through the post from them but I'll have to dig it out to see exactly what it says. Basically 50% off labour and complimentary MOT Insurance up to £700ish (parts only) but only for cars up to eight years old, so that rules mine out. There was no suggestion that this service had to be paid for. Had mine been covered by the MOT Insurance I might have been interested, though I wouldn't trust them not to invent problems that take the bill well over £700, and 50% off their labour rate is probably still expensive.

Typical, 4.5 hours away. Inspection 2 due in 700 miles too!

I can't see how that's 50% off the labour, when 90% of the cost of the Insp 1 & 2 is labour.

They're effectively saying that a standard Inspection 1 on an e46 M3 is £800 and we'll do it for £500.

All they do is check everything and replace a few cheap parts - air, oil, fuel, cabin filter. Even then they'll charge you for wipers and other consumables that were supposedly included.
