Tyre recommendation needed

My 330Ci Clubsport needs one new rear Goodyear Eagle F1 255/35/18 but as they don't make them anymore and noone has got any left it looks like i'm going to have to replace both rear tyres.. As you can imagine this isn't exactly good news.

So anyone got a recommendation on a tyre?

Pilot sports seem well recommended but are about £30 more than everything else..

With tyres, I find you get what you pay for? But saying that, some cheaper Asian brands are now coming onto the market which are getting good reviews...

I put PS2's on the M5 and it transformed the handling and I rarely get any DSC interference now.

What about the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta they did very well in Evo's tyre review..

What about the new Eagle F1 Asymmetric - the replacement in your size for the GSD3 pattern ( presumably what you had? ).

Did very well in EVO and Autocar tyre tests recently

Those would have been my choice.. Apparently though noone has any and goodyear arn't saying when they will be available.

Ah bad luck, they're a very good allrounder. Personally I'd go for the PS2s in that case ...but I'd probably want the fronts to match as well

I run the Conti Sport 2s on my 328 and think they're a brilliant all rounder. Better in the dry than the F1 GSD3 for my driving although not as good as the GY in the wet ( very little is IME although I'd like to try the Vredesteins )

I found the GY GSD2/3 too "sloppy" for hard driving in hot, dry weather too.

Caboose - do you reckon the Conti Sports for trackday use? I was thinking of PS2s, but the Sports are a fair bit cheaper from memory. Worth a punt?

When I picked up my BBS alloys they came with Sunny tyres all round. I was going to just kill them at Bedford on the 9th, but then thought about putting something half decent on the front.

PS2s are £111 on blackcircles at the moment, whereas conti sport contact 3s are £100 - not much in it.

Whatever you do, don't mix brands front and back, I did exactly the same thing recently and completely cocked up the balance of the car.

I got a set of 255/35/18 Eagle F1 GSD3's from MyTyres just before Christmas so you might get lucky if you keep looking.

Well, bearing in mind my tyres currently have as much grip as a buttered monkey, I'm tempted to change the fronts and see how it is. If it's shocking, I can always nip out and get the rears done to match, but I'd rather kill them on track first.

I'd vote for Toyo Proxes T1-Rs. Every time.

Compounds vary from one tyre type to another from the same manufacturer, let alone tyres from complety different producers. Tread patterns and contact patches will also be different as well. You can be lucky and get a working combination or you could be unlucky and get it horribly wrong, your choice I guess?
