How do BMW do it? is it as sophisticated as they say it is?

Is it true worn tyres affects the accuracy of this alignment?

There are many tyre fitting companies that have the same kit as BMW. It is not BMW's own developed kit. Independants will do a 4 wheel align for half the price of BMW.
It is not a quick job to do a proper 4 wheel align and includes adding weight ot the car to ensure it is sitting correctly. I have used PMW of chelmsford who charge £100 and it takes a couple of hours to do it properly. When changing worn tyres, it is worth having a full alignment. in normal uage tyre wear will not make an appreciable difference to the alignment.

If you can get into Cambridge then performance tyres on clifton rd can do it for you.

The KDS is not simply a 4 wheel alignment. The car is correctly weighted and the alignment on the wheels is taken from the hubs, not the wheel rims. Ride height is also measured and steering centralised.
As with many things, it is all down to the operator rather than the equipment.

Thanks for the info guys. Best i get it done soon then. Will they add weights etc then, that will make my car heavier?

Hope the BMW techies are trained in using it properly, not many proffessional dealers about anymore unfortunately.

The BMW dealer in Leamington used to do my E28 M5, it took them half a day (ish) the car was loaded up with sand bags over and then they did their "stuff". was about £120
