New car - Advice please.

Time is coming round for me to change my car and I'm after a bit of advice and your opinion.
I currently have a 335d SE coupe and really like it, but I'm not sure if I shouldn't go for the 335i next instead. I don't do that much mileage, just over 4000 miles since last May, so the saving in fuel bills is more than eaten up by the extra cost of the diesel. The diesel doesn't sound bad at all but I'm sure the petrol will sound a lot better. The 335d is the first auto I've owned and I'm more than happy with it but do sometimes miss the interaction of a manual box and being able to chose which gear I want to be in.
That all makes it sound like a no brainer to go for the petrol but I really am not sure. Can anyone who has driven both give me their opinion. I'm not knocking the 335d, its been an awesome introduction to BMW ownership.

I wouldnt bother losing the 335d just for a 335i. I have friends with 335i and its a great car, as good as the 335d but not worth changing one for the other.
Re-map your 335d is one thing i would recommend doing (DMS most definately are the people you want to do this)
If your dead set of losing the 335d then get an M3.
You will be wasting your time changing the 35d for a 35i. Performance wise there is no difference. The only thing the 335i has over the 335d in my opinion is exhaust note.

I'd say go for it and buy the 335i.
Sounds like you've enjoyed the experience of the 335d with it's autobox but you are now looking at getting back to the manual box for that more involved drive. I must admit that I am totally with you on this. The other advantage is that like for like the 35i will be a touch quicker and you get the added bonus of changing gear when you want to. I must admit that I do miss a manual box sometimes, but for the 335d that I have the autobox is perfect as most of my driving is clocking up miles on the Motorway......and that is the only reason I bought it.

DXB, the reason I am going to change the car is that I'm in the Army and can buy tax free. A new 335d, with options will set me back about £30k, a 335i with the same options will be £28K. I have been offered £30k trade in on my 335d coupe so I can either swap it for a brand new 335d, or go for the 335i and get a brand new car AND £2k cash back.
If I was in most people's shoes and had bought the car at list, ok discounted list price, there is no way I would be changing. The 335d has been great as I said before and I would be more than happy to keep it, but when I can swap a year old car for a new one, or a new one and cash back, I would be daft not to.
As for getting an M3, believe me I would love to but in no way can I justify the difference in price between it and the 335, i or d. Tax free the difference is evn more as I get extra Forces discount of 13% on the 335 but not the M3. With required options the M3 is going for about £45k and for someone who only does 6-7k miles a year I can't reconcile spending half as much again to get the M car.
