E46 lighting

My 2000 320 E46 has (I think) blown the OSF side light - highlighted by the display on the dash.
Nothing exciting there I know but I think the OSF indicator lights up - not flashing - when the side lights only are on. It goes out when the main lights are on, and seems to behave normally when indicating.
I think this is a feature so the OSF of the car is still highlighted when the bulb has blown, but my mate says I'm mad.

Does anyone know about this?

Sounds like a bad earth in the headlight unit, so it's earthing through the indicator?
Or water in the connectors, I'd be surprised if it was an intentional thing by BMW....

Pretty sure this is intentional, I am certain it is for the rear.

yep it's meant to happen, if you have a sidelight out and only have them switched on the indicator will stay on.

Yup, that's the LCM (light control module) working as designed.

Now I've changed the bulb (W5W type) everything has gone back to normal.
I'm impressed at this little feature
