Long service intervals on modern BMW's

Is this just a ploy to make running a new car seem cheaper? will it adversely affect cars in the long run once clocked up some mileage?

Im just wondering because my car wasnt due its first service intill 20k!

It's partly to reduce the apparent costs for leasing companies and partly down to "oil" improvements but I do wonder what the 80K and 4 year old ex fleet cars are going to be like when they have had just 3 services in their period of leasing.....

I use "Branded" good quality oil and change every 3000 miles - have done for 20 years and see no reason to change

I've been changing the oil mid service anyway - cheap and quick enough to do.

i have had the first service done and due the 2nd, is it now worth doing oil and filter more often or has the damage been done?

Frequent oil changes are always worthwhile - no damage will have been done. Are you intending to keep the car for longer than 3 years? If not I wouldn't bother doing it.

Do it yourself, it's not hard. You could just pay the dealer to do an oil service, I'm sure they won't object.

I've just booked my 330Cd into my local BMW dealer for a "while you wait" oil and filter change. The car is midway through it scheduled service intervals. The price however was laughable.

£195 plus VAT.

I'm now gonna wait till the next service is due.

The joys of main dealer servicing!
