E46- is this the start of the dreaded TURBO problem ?

Have not had the car long,about a month. Recently i have noticed as i accelerate past about 1800 revs there is a high pitched noise,it goes off at around 2500rpm.This noise is not allways there
but seems to appear when cold or if i have not been above about 2000rpm for awhile and then
accelerate. The car is 2003 with 69,000 miles and fsh,its got a warranty that runs out at end of March and this covers the turbo.I can renew this warranty at a cost of about 800 quid but will give this a miss if i think turbos okay. Checked the belts and they are okay. Thanks for any views.
