Z3M Re-map Help !!

Hi. Had my Z3 done a few months ago by evolve your car and I have a problem in the dam thing cutting out !! always on idle

What makes you think it might have to do with a remap?

Could be a multitude of things.

Is there any pattern to it?
is the car cold at the time?
is it only when the car is hot?
is it when you're coming up to junctions?
Does the idle speed 'hunt? ie, not settle at a particular speed?
If you're driving and you let the car out of gear immediately with your foot off the accelerator, does it drop straight to idle or does it go down slowly?
Does it not idle all the time?

why after re-mapp well because never did it before..... I even fitted std filter unit and checked air flow fittings and onboard computer fuses.....

Also May I add when i disconected the air flow meter the engine hunted less and seemed to act normal !!!

If it only started doing it immediately after the remap then it might be to do with it. You could ask your remapper to unmap it again?

Could it be the air flow meter itself?

Mind you, I had a passat and an audi that did similar. Turned out to be the potentiometer / idle sensor. ie, how the car deals with being revved at idle and being revved while driving is two different things. The car should hold on to the revs awaiting your gear change if you are driving. it sounds like that is not happening.

Firstly, what filter unit did you have in there before you swapped it back to the standard one?

Secondly, have you got someone to run a fault code diag on it?

The filter that was on during the re-map was a K&N Filter this was replaced for the STD one as this would be sucking warm air, when I replaced it for the std unit the lumpy idle went worse then started cutting out occasionaly, I then put the K&N unit back on the car will still cut out , usualy worse on change down from high speeds under braking .....

I have not had a diagnostic fault finder done as of yet but will persue

Instead of posting on here, why don't you call Imran at Evolve and I am sure he can give you some advice.

I'd say its most likely the MAF sensor as K&N filters are known to cause MAF problems due to filter oil getting on to the sensor wire.

Can you clean it with a carb cleaning spray/aerosol

Sometimes works, but sometimes completely stuffs them. I'd not risk it personaly.
