E60 Touring advice.....

Toying with the idea of punting the Cayenne S and buying a used E60 530D sport touring. What can I expect economy wise from the 530 and is there enough room for 3 kiddiewinkles in the back (two in boosters and one in a stage 1 car seat). Also any pitfalls with the E60 I should be aware of?

I have a 535d and I would assume in everyday life the 530 is very similar. Engine and economy is fine with mid 30's gunning it or 40+ on a run. Loads of space in the boot of the saloon, must be even more in the tourer so no problems there (I'm told you get more space than an X5 in the 5 series tourer and I've had a couple of X's so that must be loads!)
The back seat is a different issue. I have two children who are 13 and 16 and a baby 2 years in a car seat and it's very - note very tight. Much worse than my old X and on a long journey 'fraught' is one word that springs to mind
. I can't comment on your set-up but I'm sure it would be much tighter than the Cayenne.
On the whole though I'm very happy with the 535 and will put up with the odd argument because the car is so good!

Cheers for the response Martin. To be honest the Cayenne back seat is pretty tight, I can't get 2 boosters and a stage 1 car seat in it. Ridiculous for a car that size. I think the X5 has more room than the Porker in the back. Providing I can get the 2 boosters and a car seat it will do me fine and just about half my fuel bill!
Will have to go and take a look at an e60 touring locally before making the call. I usually come down south to get more choice when buying but try to have a close look locally before doing it!

Found the BM a bit boring at first to be honest as missed the noise of the Cayenne engine but now happy to have made the switch. Still find the i-drive a pain though...
