BMW X5 2005 iPod Connection

Hurrah! I have joined the ranks of being a BMW owner! Have just picked up the missus a X5 sport and its a treat!
One question, what is the best way to make the most of this ipod connection? reading the manual, its about creating playlists etc, but is it at all possible to scroll for artist etc? and would it be too much to get the track listings up? I see there is a kit by DICE (sp?) in the states that allows this, any help?!
