BMW oil service

Hi folks,

I've got one of these due in 3700 miles on my 330 and my used car warranty expires in 3 weeks.

Is this purely an oil change and also, what sort of price have you folks paid for this?

If it covers other items, I'd be tempted to get it done early before the warranty expires.

It will just be an oil change and perhaps the pollen filter.

IM pretty sure in the book it says oil changed, braked checked and oil filter changed. I think your looking at around £150 at a dealer, a lot less at an independent.

£120 ish stealer(standard BMW service oil,filter,pollen filter,peek at pads)
£85 ish specialist(probaly have a few extras like washer top up,tyre pressures added in to the BMW service)

Thanks for the advice folks. SOunds like it's not worth doing the service early before the warranty expires then.

It may well be worth it as they will do an end of Warranty check for you.

It's obvioulsy cheaper on a 3 than a Z4! I've been quoted ~£250 for this by dealers!!

That may well be all they bother doing but there is a lot more that on the check sheet. Let me have your e-mail and I will send you a check sheet and you can see what they miss out!

I just booked my car in for an Oil Service and was initially quoted £54 as a price with my supplying the oil myself. Then the guy on the phone said that the price was wrong becuase my car is an 'M', therefore it'll be £106.

Why is the M more to service than a reglar car when I'm supplying the expensive bit (Catrol TWS oil) myself?

I have just had a Z4 that was in stock given an oil service by a main dealer and it was £160

Not sure why such a difference. None of the dealers in this area quoted less than £200 and it's even £140 with an indie.

This does sound right - IIRC, Costwolds BMW were the ones offering an Insp. II service on an E46 M3 for around £600.

the Z4 above is correct...
We are actually really competative in pricing at the mo..Seem to be getting a bit of trade from the London area.

I'll bear that in mind when my Insp2 comes round. I've just checked train prices (seeing as Insp2 is an overnighter) and if booked in advance it's only 18 quid return between Gloucester and London.

Because they think that if you can afford to drive an "M" car, you can pay more for servicing.

You did not say whether your car was an E36 or E46, but if an E36, the labour time on an oil service is the same at 0.75 hours each.

If an E46 then the oil service time is 0.45 hours for an "M" car and 0.35 for a non-"M", ie 330i. Therefore slightly dearer.

Mind you, for £106 on 0.45 hrs work is £235.55/hr on your M3 E46
or £141.33/hr on your M3 E36

Nice rate if you can get it!

It's a Z3M Coupe, so probably the same time as the E36 at a guess.
