535d and 335d services due dealer or indepenent?

Hi Guys - am based near Stafford and both my 335d and the wifes 535d are coming up to a service (335d oil service only at 18k and wifes is microfilter and oil service at 30k) is there any good independents in the staffordshire area as I've been quoted £250 for oil change and £80 for microfilter by the dealer.

Independent will more than certainly use only OEM parts if they are half decent. Most will do a better job than dealers too - just need to find one a well known one near you.Surely the indepandant will not use the same quality materials no?
Your point on residuals is valid though - particularly with a newer car such as a 535d/335d. I personally use a dealer for the stamp and get any other work done by an Indy for easier resale.
A good way of saving cash is by supplying your own oil. I save about £50 on Main dealer services by sourcing my own Mobil 1 0w40 - the exact same oil they use.
Best to keep Dealer stamp in the book whilst the car is under warrenty. Any work done else where might affect any future warrenty claim.
I also begrudge paying Dealer prices but it's part and parcel of owning a new car and consideration should have been given during the buying process. There is no harm in trying to negotiate down the cost of a service. I wouldn't normally do this but it appears that different BMW Dealers charge different prices for the same job, therefore you have the grounds for amicable negotiation.........try it.

If you ever plan to sell your car back to a dealer then a BMW stamp is a must! if you plan do keep them until they die then go with the cheapest option.
If you read this forum you'll see people recomend a good indy for servicing but when people enquiry about buying info, the same advise to check for a full main dealer BMW service history!! strange old world eh.....

The dealer cannot invalidate the warranty just as a specialist did the servicing etc. That was a law brought in about 2004.
Interesting point about the Main dealer probably not taking it in as part exchange. Presumably all of their cars have to have full MD history.
If you do take it to a specialist or independant the car will have to be either privatly sold or px'ed to an independant trader.
Personally I would do as mentioned, servicing done at MD, everything else, brakes, coolnat and any repairs etc at a good specialist.

If you are going to source the oil yourself look at the Opie Oils price first, but ensure that the oil you buy is to BMW specification.I did that with the Alpina but on my last service with the E92 335d the Dealership sourced it.
