E39 queries

Change of car is imminent, due to baby on the way. I've been considering various 6 cylinder motors, Mondeo/Vectra, but I'm baulking at the thought of getting a car with wrong wheel drive.

Seen a few E39s going for a similar price that I'll be able to get for my E36 318iS (about £2k).

There are a few 520/523s going on here, do they have the same nikasil issues that affected the other 6 cylinder BMWs of that era? Anything else obvious to look into on them? I know that neither are particularly fast, but any ideas what sort of mileage you can get out of them?

Also, all the ones I've seen have the standard fit BMW head units, I'd be having to change for something with an iPod connection, its one hell of a wide unit isn't it? It'll look stupid with a blanking plate ....

Re nikasil issues yes 520/523s are effected, if you go for a 99 car you should avoid any issues all together

IPOD connector plugs through CD changer outlet on the headunit (though you have to loose use of that) just get a connects2 lead
