What P/X price could I expect for my '97P 735i?

As per title, 735i V8, 115k on the clock, 12months MOT (done on Tuesday), FSH. I expect feck all will be the answer of course

Better off selling privately if you can be bothered.

trade in price is not as important as "cost to change". A garage may give you a "high" pricce for it, but then you might be paying top dollar on the car you are buying, which they may have lots of margin in.

£3k would indeed be great, I suspect unlikely though as I'm only looking to drop £3-4k on the next motor

I'll most likely bob it on fleabay, but there's a definite convenience to P/Xing and no hassle from tyre kickers.

3k trade, you are having a laugh!!

At the moment, you'd be lucky to get offered £2k and it would need to have a good spec and history.

Trade price on the car is probably around £1500. They will however probably have £750-£1000 'discount' to work with on the car you are buying, so you could get offers £2250 - £2500.

Heres a dealer selling a similar one to yours for £2100.... (and i'm guessing it doesnt stand him £2000)

That would be an outright purchase price. Part ex price is very different. The dealer will have profit on his car to play with and can also "write back" the deal to save VAT etc

Results are in and the offer was £2k to P/X on £3990. So I went for it, might have made a few hundred more if lucky on Ebay but would have to deal with potential hassles involved.

Here's the new motor, going to pick her up tomorrow. '98 S reg 528i, 73k on the clock, fbmwsh, titanium with black leather, slush-o-matic box.

Very nice 5. I've had 2 in the past and loved them.

I've been following the prices of 728/735 for the last few weeks they are taking a hit looks like you did well in the end up.

Yep, I did OK on the 7, mainly because I bagged it for a great price on Ebay to start with, they really are cheap as chips now though it's quite mad!

Not long back from a very hot journey home, trust me not to check the air con when I looked it on Sunday, well it was chucking it down at the time! Hopefully a re-gas will sort it out. Other than that, a cracking little motor! Easily as fast as the 7 and a bit more eager to rev too, so the 6 pot gets the thumbs up from me!

I'm nearly 2 years and 20K miles into my 528i SE manual, and I'm thinking "time for a new car" and then I'm thinking "yeah, but what?" and then I have mad ideas like Subaru Imprezas and Galant VR4s and stuff. And I really do think I'd like that sort of thing, but only as a second car. But I can't afford two (either financially nor spatially - I have no parking).

So I go all sensible again and realise that matching my 5er is going to need, in all likelihood, another 5er.

I think I might just put a fraction of the money I'd spend on a new car towards a gearbox rebuild when the time comes, and get the dings and whatnot removed.
