E46 key cutting/coding

Hi all
I need to get a spare key for my 2001 E46. I know the stealers charge around £115 for a new one of these and I would rather save a few pounds if possible. I know you can get new, uncut keys which you then need to have cut and coded. On doing a Google search to find out how easy this is, I have found the sequence to code the key, but have seen that auto locksmiths won't get involved with cutting them.
Has anyone had any experience in sorting out a new key without going down the stealer route and are there locksmiths out there who will cut these keys?
