cd player problem

Hi guys i own a 2002 330i sport and the cd player yesterday was working fine, today its not. Every time i switch to the cd mode the display reads searching for cd"s then reads no discs. It is the standard bmw business cd player with the changer in the boot. I have removed the 6 cd cartridge from within the boot checked the cds were in correctly replaced the cartridge correctly and tried again, same result, searching for cds, then display reads no discs. Totally baffled as to what is wrong, anybody had this problem, anybody got any ideas, thanks Tom.

This isn't uncommon with the CD changer in the E46. I had similar problems with mine. I ended up taking it apart and greasing the mechanisms. So far it's working again no problems and that was a few days ago now that I did that. Alternatively you could buy a new unit or a second hand unit through the classifieds/e-bay.
