Tuning a 318ci Coupe?

Having recently purchased a 318ci coupe as a daily driver I was wondering what's the best method of getting a few more horses from it? The 118bhp isn't up to much so I have looking for a hike in power, say around the 150bhp mark or so?

What's the most common way of doing this and how much does it cost, etc..

Um, yeah...

I was thinking more along the lines of a remap for a slight increase in power, rather than a change of car. I wasn't looking anything outrageous, has anyone any experience with these?

30 bhp is a fair wack for an n/a engine if your attaching some sort of blowing device to it.

Easiest way? Sell and buy a 328

Kind of agree, an extra 30bhp is a huge ask for this engine.

The old 6-pot 2.0ltr was 150bhp I think. Buy one of them - sound better too.

Sorry if I was asking too much, never owned a BMW before so I didn't know what to expect.

Unfortunately as engine size goes up so does insurance, so the group 12 318i suits, and the 328 is 15 as far as I remember.

Its not a matter of it being a BMW, its hard to extract 20% BHP out of a normally asperated engine without spending serious money - far more than would upgrade the car.

Stick with the power you have. Great car. You dont have to be driving flat out to enjoy a BMW.

Exhaust and filter are your best bet!! Wont see much gains though, prob not even 10bhp..

A decent flowed manifold would be great but at enormous expense.

Just enjoy the car for what it is, go for styling mods untill insurance comes down to an acceptable level. (Well its never acceptable, but at least manageable )

I'm younger than most on here and the renewal for my 530i Sport is about £750. Just how much cheaper would a 520i be instead? Very little I suspect.

Oh and on the insurance side of things, being 20 it's an absolute nightmare.
Even looking sideways at a bigger engined car sends my premium sky high.

It's not that I was looking for big power or a lot more speed, I get enough of that on the stages, I just thought it could do with a bit of a lift. I was thinking remap but it doesn't look to be a good idea..

Well I think you should post up your insurer.

As I have not had any exp of any that will charge 50 quid to swap from a straight 6 3ltr to a 4 ltr v8 with much more power.

Back to the topic in question, the additional insurance cost of a 320Ci 6 pot over a 318Ci would not be significant. It would be cheaper than a remap, infact.

Insurance throws up some strange anomalies. I ended up getting a 911 when I was quoted £500 a year instead of over £1k for a M3 or Impreza turbo.
