HELP !! E46 325 Gearbox into 330D

I have a 2000 330d with a knackered autobox....Ive been offered a auto/tip box out of a 2001 325 Petrol....

Question is will the 325 box work in the 330d?? I have been advised by the breaker that it will but would like views or confirmation from you guys....Please Help as need to get it sorted.

Wouldn't the petrol box have shorter ratios due to being able to rev higher? or does the final drive in the diff sort that out?

Yes it does have shorter ratio's but car is only used in town so shorter ratios will improve the take off and make it move quicker....

Certainley with current 3 series E9x models the torque capacity of the petrol boxes is significantly less than the diesels.

That would be a nightmare to drive with the really close ratios you'd be changing gear all the time to keep it in the power band and have a top speed of about 90 mph.
