MPG 320d >2006 < 2007

Just wondering what sort of real world MPG I could expect from a pre efficient dynamics, 320d se or M sport? my daily drive consists of around 45 to 50 miles of motorway and 20 to 30 reasonably uncongested suburbs.

I took out a non ED 320d SE for the day, did 100 miles of Cornish A roads with the odd bit of dual carriageway and a mixture of driving it reasonably hard and also taking it quite easy in places and got 48mpg.

I've just done pretty much the same sort of trip in my 530i Sport and it returned 30mpg under the same circumstances.

I have a September 05 320D auto. 48 on a run, 44 to and from work, (8 miles each way), overall averages 46/47.

All according to the OBC.

My commute is 25 miles each way, then into rush hour traffic for the last five miles (20 mins), then the reverse of that on the way home.

I get pretty much consistently 43.4mpg, though i can get 50+ mpg on long runs.

No, the 318d, 118d and 120d are all more economical.

I have had a 2006 120d and now have a 2007 ED 320d sport touring. The Efficient Dynamics car returns a good 25% more miles to the gallon.

Both mine have been autos so there is no stop/start technology on them, but it has the rest and the difference in both economy and refinement is not subtle.

I finance my cars, and the cost of going from a 56 plate to a 57 plate ED car was only £40 a month even though the car was £4k more, I save around £80 in fuel plus all the other benifits that come with having a 3 month old car over a 15 month old car.
Servicing on the 120d was every 15k miles with my driving, on the ED car I am now at 14k and it is still saying 12k till the next service.

The Ed figures, even for the petrol varient's are pretty amazing, especially given extra performance all round.

I have thought that extra economy will help with the extra cost of buying an ED version. When did they come out Sept 2007. Are there any other giveaway that is an ED version apart form badging? might be buying at auction so no owner to ask

If it is a manual you get the button to turn on/off the stop start feature under the climate control.

If it is an auto you get the newer style gear stick, only a slight change, but different enough. You also get the bigger exhaust that is straight through, not downturned.

On servicing my 320D has been pretty impressive. 54K miles, been back in 3 times. 25K for oil service, 37 for a check, nothing done, and 50K for second oil service.


Had an issue with leaking fuel tank breather sorted under warranty but nothing else.
