Electronic Output Control Warning Light

Hi

The subject warning light came on this morning in my petrol 330. Is it still OK to use the car today? I'll book it into the garage tomorrow. From what I have read this is just something to do with an exhaust emissions sensor.

I didn't notice anything unusual. It wasn't smoking and sounded normal. Do you know which components could have developed a fault causing this light to come on?

You didn't happen to move it a very short distance over the weekend did you (e.g. getting it out of the way of the garage door in order to get the mower out, or similar) ?

I've experienced this cycle of events in the past:

Engine on for very short period (e.g. above scenario)
Mis-fire next time car is used
Mis-fire affects emissions: engine warning light comes on.
Misfire goes and car drives normally once up to temp though
Next time start engine: light doesn't come on

I took the car over to Munich Motors in Wokingham this afternoon. They diagnosed a faulty temperature sensor which is booked in for replacement on Wednesday. The thermostat has to be replaced also as its all 1 unit. Should only be around £20 for the part plus 1 hours labour so not too bad.
