M-Sport Steering Wheel

OK tricky one this. I bought a 525d M-Sport on a 06 plate with 24000 miles recently (2months ago)from a company that sourced the car directly from BMW leasing.
Very very impressed so far.
However I have noticed the steering wheel is begining to peel. Very difficult to explain but it looks like a film of black cling-film like substance is coiming away from the steering wheel.
Have spoken to my local indy (they have a good relationship with a dealer) as they were changing the brake fluid. Dealer have said that they won't replace as it is not under warranty. Warranty = mecanical not wear. Any suggestions guys and girls ?

My car is 06 and shows no signs of wear. Get it replaced.

Am taking it into a Dealers tomorrow and see what they say ! Will keep you posted !

Mine did the same thing at about 50k, now it is up to 90k the mark has all but gone.

24k mile 2 year old car and they won't replace it!!

Get them to put in a claim to BMW UK, I am sure they will do it straight away.

Also I would take t to your local dealer yourself, the fact another indy is asking might put their backs up a bit.
If you go in they will probably say no problem.

My CSL had 3 steering wheels in 3 years all under warranty, last one was the day before the warranty ran out.

Had exactly the same problem on my 06 535d - parts were replaced under warranty - now whole wheel but the plastic bits were replaced - now no problem at all.

Was told BMW did a faulty batch in 2006 model runs and BMW customer services are aware of it. Take it to another dealer and get him to replace it under warranty.

Heathrow BMW did mine (but i wouldn't recommend them for anything!!!)

Exactly the same has happened to my late 2006 535d - I'll be pushing the delaer for a remedy having read these posts - thanks guys!

Good news all ! Took it into Vines of Guildford on Fri, they took a quick look and said no problem. Booked in next Fri for the replacement part, I think it's just the plastic not the whole wheel.
