Cheapo towbar electrics for a 2008 320d SE

Hi

Can anyone confirm if it possible to spice a cheapo Halfords/Scotchlock style towbar electrics system into a current model 2008 320d SE saloon?

I'm not fitting a towbar, I just need the electrics so I can run secondary lighting to go on a boot mounted bike rack. The cable will probably just live in the boot and get shut in the boot seal if it's needed.

I know the full Gucci kits are available but as it's a company car I don't really want to spend the money. I don't care if it does not do the clever stuff like disable the parking bleepers in reverse, as long as it does not interfere with the computers or permanently trigger some warning light somewhere that's fine for me.

You can't just splice a socket into the loom. You will need bypass relays for the bulb failure warning system but then you still have the problem of the dual functionality of some bulbs. I fitted a smart relay from Towsure http://www.towsure.com/product/13145-Smart_7_Way_C... which works perfectly. It only required four signal wires and the earth to be connected plus a fused feed from the battery, very simple.
