The new BMW X6 - how many rear seats?

I get mailed the BMW Magazine and today I received the Summer 2008 edition. It was the first time I've seen the BMW X6, and I have to say I really like the look of it. I've had my current 330 for nearly two years and I'm thinking of changing it soon, as such I thought the X6 could be a candidate.

However, it looks like it's only got two rear seats - is that correct? If so, it's a non-starter bcause I have to take four kids to school/college on the way to work (the beemer is my work car). I had a look on the BMW website and, again, it only looks like it's got two rear seats. Do they do a five seat option does anyone know?

You are the first person I know who has said they like the look of the X6 - it ain't my cup of tea but each to their own.

I am sure it is only available as a four seater.

Its unnecessarily a four seater. They've taken the perfectly good for three rear seating space of an x5 and put a plastic console down the middle.

The x5 is a more better car all round in my opinion - seats 5 (or the option of 7), same engines, same specs, cheaper, and has a proper boot.

Shame, you are wrong this is the best 4x4 by far, who needs 7 or 5 seats, there are 3 in my family so a 4 seater has one too many! Who wants a low down sports car that you cannot see out of?

Is that not the whole point of sports cars that they are low down? Lets not kid ourselves here, the x6 may be the best handling 4x4 out there, but its way short of being a sports car.

If you need the flexibility of a large 4x4, buy an x5

If you want a four seater sports car, buy an m3

If you want to be taken in by a cynical marketing gimmick, buy an x6
