Just a quick one here - will the M Sport version be available from Sept07?

Also the new 330d is going to have 245bhp & near on 400lbf... also combined cycle MPG is 49.6!!! whereas the current one is 46.5mpg.

Does anyone think it will be worth buying a new 330d or buy a year old 330d? Will the pre face lift E90's now be taking a fair hit on price?

Also where is the cheapest place online to buy a new BMW?

Cheers folks.

Personally I'll be looking for a pre facelift as you can still map these to 275bhp+ with a slight improvement in fuel consumption too.. the newer ones will have encrypted ECU's.... plus as you say I am hoping there is a big hit on prices smilesmile I am going to ait until early next year and try and pick up one which has been traded in for the face lift....

I am not convinced by the new looks either, especially on the touring.

Im not so sure, the new 330d has 15bhp more & torque is up to 400lbf (IIRC) MPG is up 6.5% to an amazing combined 49.5mpg.... and extra urban is into the 60's!!! CO2 is a fair bit lower too not sure if its a VED band lower but may be.

Also the Pro Nav now has an 80Gb HD which has the whole globe on sat nav and can easily be updated. And you can store music onto your HD I think its a silly number of albums 5000??
I'd want there to be quite a gap in price for me to opt for a 6-12 month old 330d over the latest one

The current model is available with over £3000 discount, plus they have been pushing the 320d 'edition' models with Nav, 18's, leather, and met paint for an extra £1000. Therefore there 'should' be a significant price difference.

Just had a look at this broker and Im amazed... if you opt for a 335d M Sport or a 330d M Sport Auto on a 0% deposit PCP over 4 years & 20k a year then monthly there is a difference of:-

335d = £607pcm
330d = £600pcm...

Given that why would anyone buy the 330d? There would have to be a big reduction in the monthly cost to push it in its favour.

Interesting.... if they did a 335d in manual it would be a no brainer..... The diesel for much isn't so much better consumption but the huge wave of low down torque smile

Good prices on that website... they even offer discount on options... something I don't think BMW will do....

I found this when i bought a new 535d last year. Given the 535d comes with auto and digital climate control, a similarly spec'd 530d m sport was coming out at exactly the same deposit and monthly payments.

Again if you root around enough when buying second hand, you could buy a 335d for the price of a 330d, or in my case i've just bought a 535d m sport for the price of a 530d m sport.

Well just got a new role but will be through heavy commuting and I dont fancy a daily leg workout Id prefer the auto - as much as I love manuals for the required purpose the auto would be better...

If the 330d will be at 245bhp surely they will up the wick on the 335d?

Nav on a 3 series completely disrupts the flow of the dashboard and doesnt seem to be as necessary on a 3 series as a five.

I definitely dont think it will add £2500 to the value of a used 3 series come resale time, so only get it if you feel you want it.

Come 2nd hand time no way is it worth the full £2.5j list for that option. The moment you drive the car away you will lose 17.5% of itso near on £500 and it depreciates just like anything.

All I think it does is makes the car more saleable - I would say on a 330d or £30k+ car Nav is a must have option likewise leather, other things are not. IMHO.

Of the 80 or so 330d M Sports on BMWs approved used site that are under 1 year old, around 25 have NAV - approx 30%. Bearing in mind most of those cars will be ex demo, NAV doesnt seem to be as required an option as you might imagine on a 3 series.

Interestingly of the 80 or so 530d M Sports under one year old, of which there are approx 80 too, pretty much all of them have NAV, backing up what i was saying that its pretty much an essential on big engined 5's, not so much on big engined 3's.

Thats interesting. However that aside for me if I were buying what was a £30k+ list car I would buy a 2nd hand one with it on. Or at the very least iDrive (fantastic).

And therein lies the dilemma - buying a new (facelifted) car OR buy a six month old old model car. Might not be such a big issue if the price is right, but always worth keeping one eye on discounts available online compared to what you're paying for that six month old car.

Before i bought the new 535d last year (and it was the first of the facelifted cars) i was offered a year old very heavily spec'd 535d, but when you actually looked at the figures (particularly through a BMW Select deal with a residual payment) it was as cost effective to buy a new one with the options on it i wanted as opposed to a year old one with a lot of bits i didnt care for.

If you are going to spec the iDrive then go with the facelift, the new system with 3D maps, 80gig hard drive and high resolution 1280x720 display so web browsing works will make that car. If you are not then get a used one, but make sure you save at least 25% off list if you do.

The new engine is also an aluminum block, and the car is meant to be a fair bit quicker, a new manual 330d is quicker the the old 335d, I am sure the 335d will get the new engine shortly after and this will address the balance again, but 6.1 seconds to 60 instead of 7.0 seconds is a hell of a jump.

Consumption will also probably be worth having if it is like the 163 vs 177 bhp 320d, the difference I am getting between the two is around 25%.

However, I would expect figures around the urban consumption figures for everyday and somewhere between urban and combined when on a run.

If you can't find a car with Nav you can always retrofit it, BMW will tell you its not possible but it is dead easy, the only hard bit is swapping the dash for the double scoop version, but even this only takes around 2 hours, it is designed for a quick swap due to the ait bags.

There are some incredible deals out there at the moment, and if you don't mind a 335i some absolutely silly deals. Fully loaded 335i's, 2007 with every toy imaginable for £25k, these would have been £42-44k cars new.

The OP was talking about the facelifted 330d with 245bhp being released this Sept08 not the current E90 with 230bhp.

Ive not yet seen the official numbers but what the OP states makes it highly appealing. You really dont need a quicker car on our roads.

Great info thanks.
One question what sort of ball park would the refit of Sat Nav be?

With regard to 25% off list that does seem to be what you would be paying for a 6month to a year old car currently on the 330d. And then come 3 years its 50%. If the differences are that big in performance and kit I would want a much bigger drop to occur.

I called BMW yesterday asking about the new car and what it would do to depreciation (note I had started the conversation about used BMW's around the £20k mark asking for 123d's and 330d M Sport 55/06/56 reg and he they are much more than that - I stated well on BMW AUC listiing currently there are plenty of exampels of those two cars at those prices) he said oh I'd expect there to be quite a knock on effect it always happens when a facelift/new car comes out as everyone wants to be running the new car.

Do you have a link to deals like this?

Also would someone be able to tell me if the new M3 Saloon also has this Pro Nav that the new facelifted 3 now has? (with the 80gb hard drive and 3D maps)

Or is it as a pre-facelift car?

Thanks

Use the bmw.co.uk national car search. Most dealers will easily knock £1500 off those prices.
