Upgrading BMW mark IV sat nav OS

A couple of questions on upgrading the OS on the mk IV BMW sat nav. I know there's loads out there on this, but I can't find an answer to these 2 points:

Can I upgrade straight from my version of the OS (v25) to the latest (v29.1) in one go, or do I need to go through all the intermediate upgrades?

Is there a way to backup the existing OS before I upgrade (in case it all goes Pete Tong)?

im using v32 at the mo,never had any issues with any of the versions.Takes a few minutes to load.

As long as its dvd nav and when the disc is inserted it must be on the navigation mask-if you dont it wont give the disc back.

Not sure either but you can definitely go straight to the latest version.

Burn the software disk at 1x on good media just to ensure the disk is as perfect as possible.

If it goes faulty and bricks the unit you have to take it to the dealer for them to fix it, but I've done it 10+ times without a problem.

I'd like to do the same to my car. Where did you download the software from? Did you purchase the DVD from ebay or somewhere else?

It would be nice to get the perspective view etc

Just google for a "torrent" version of the disc you need and then download it with a suitable bit torrent client. I use this one: http:\\www.utorrent.com

New map software from ebay (2008-2) which worked with the old OS(v25). Make sure you get the right version (High, Professional or Business). New OS (v29.1) downloaded from x5world - loads of stuff on there with instructions. New OS gives perspective option and updated graphics/colours etc.

So long as you read up and follow the instructions all should be fine.

X5World has V32 on there though, not sure why you did V29?

Just because I found it first and there seems to be some debate over whether 30, 31 or 32 actually have any noticeable changes. Will probably do 32 when the mood takes me.

Main thing is I now have perspective, 7 digit postcodes and speed cameras. So nearly as good as my Tomtom...

Sorry,you must have it on the nav screen...ie not tv or radio

And there isno difference between the later versions only on E65
