hi there. few things with my car. there is a small red switch in the little storage bit in my dash, just to the right of the clock. its in the roof of the little hole and its like a little light switch, is off one side and when you flick it it lights up red. does anyone know what this does?
also not using my car at the moment, but i had to jump start it the other day, and the battery keeps going flat when the car is just sat there doing nothing. changed battery with no luck also. i had it started, and then went to start it the next day and it was completely dead. iv'e been advised something must be drawing energy from the batttery but i have no idea what. any ideas?

I've got a 316 E36 but the switch you mention is not present, so I'm really not sure what that could be. Regarding the battery, presumably you have checked all the obvious things like the interior lights and the integral torch in the glovebox? This mystery switch could be something to do with it as well I guess. Other things to check are relays, since when these are faulty, they can cause current to be drawn even when the ignition is off.
You could also give your local BWM dealership a call and ask to speak to a technician to see if there is a common cause for this.
