Put key into the Z4's lock the other day to close the roof. Pushed key in, and... the lock barrel pushed into the door by about 10mm. Where it now remains.

Took it to the local dealer who said it isn't covered by warranty and it had apparently be 'forced'.

What do fellow PH'ers think? I put the key in the lock with the normal amount of force - ie, barely any.

Outrageous ! Sounds like this needs to be escalated to a manager of some sort.

I thought the dealer didn't pay for this kind of thing anyway so why get picky ?

I've no idea. They said it had taken 'some force' apparently. All I know is that I pushed the key into it and it.. carried on into the door.

They used the same great line I've heard far too many times about it being a used car not a new one.

Odd. Is it possible that your arm has become super strong through excessive masterbation and you inadvertantly forced the lock ?

Obviously, thats possible....
But perhaps a more likely cause is that someone else, blessed with a somewhat scant regard for other peoples property, had forced the lock in the typical 'stealing a BMW' fashion and failed to gain entry.

Which given the car is a plaything which lives in a garage unless its sunny sounds like the sort of thing which occured before it was purchased as an AUC.

I don't look forward to winning that argument though.

Firstly how old is your vehicle? Is it still within the manufacturers 3 year warranty, covered by the 1 year AUC warranty or by extended policy?
This makes a difference as the latter two don't necessarily cover as much as the manufacturers 3 year one.
You should have details on what is and isn't covered.

It's a 2003, covered by the AUC warranty.
