Alright folks,
How good are these (Alpina B3.3 Coupe), are they worth the premium over the 330Ci?
Looking at s/h values they are going for at least 2k more than the 330Ci. How similar are they mechanically?
There's a nice one near me for 12k for a 2000W model, with an impressive 44k on the clock. Bit poverty spec however, compared to what kind of spec 330Ci 12k would get you.
Thoughts?
Cheers

The one I'm looking at has the more sporty metallic trim fortunately!
A 3.4S Touring pulled up at my work car park the other day, what a sound, completely different to what I had expected. This leads me to believe they've had substantial work done to that BMW S6 or is it just that bucket-esque backbox?
Also, is there any difference between those built in 99/00 and 02/03 when BMW upgraded the 3 series range around 2001ish?

Most B3's are pretty well spec'd anyway, a mate of mine has a B10 4.6 and just picked up a B3S Cab for his missus.
When we went hunting for the cab we looked at a few B3 and a few B3S, and the B3S pulls noticeably stronger and smoother, but the B3 is in itself a big change from the 330.
Good luck!

I got mine a couple of weeks ago... damn best M power bargains thread
it's a lovely thing, as said above, very smooth but with an edge to it, probably closer to the 330 step than the M3 SMG from very very limited drives in both.
Alpina register is the place for info but note there does seem to be a concern with excessive oil usage on 2000 models - don't know how accurate this is or whether it's just internet panic but worth checking out.
Interior is beautiful - soft leather (that doesn't seem to wear as well as std BM leather), posh carpets etc.
Recommended, but few around to choose from.
Note you don't need the coupe-bluetooth-headgear-and-cheap-shades or the M3-baseball-cap-and-expensive-shades for an Alpina - it's somewhere in between

Seems like it delivers the best of both worlds, nice automatic waftyness when you just wanna glide to work and then a flick of the thumb to downshift when you get to a tasty bend. Sounds good to me.
12k for 2000 model with 44k seem reasonable? Doesn't have xenons, decent hi-fi or satnav (cack anyway by all accounts)

I have a 2004 B3S (3.4L instead of 3.3) and have to say it's great, even better than what I expected it to be. I used to hate automatics, and still do whenever I have the displeasure of driving the OH's Merc or a hire car but the Alpina slushbox just does it so well. Effortless power with the ability to flick it into "touchtronic" mode and make the most of a masterpiece of an engine.
My advice would be to hold out for a B3S.

Looks far to expensive might look nice and have a low mileage but the spec for a Alpina is very poor there’s similar Cars for Sale (higher Mileage but better spec for £3-4K less) There’s even a 3.4S 2002 in the Classifieds @ under £13K as Alpina’s are bullet proof I would be quite happy to buy an average or Higher Mileage Car that has a FSH
2000 Model Cars as previously said can suffer from high Oil Consumption I had a 2000X Coupe used about 1 litre per 500 miles They don’t seam to suffer any lack in performance and don’t even burn it (smoke) or leak but for some reason they just like drinking oil.
