320d diesal problems - HELP!

Help!.. some advice would be appreciated..

I have a 52 reg 320d (automatic) that I bought two years ago for £10K, (48,000miles) within a month the injectors had to be replaced (the independent garage obliged as still under warranty), in April this year the turbo blew-up (new turbo, exhaust, catalytic converter etc..got the job done with BMW (they paid for parts as had full BMW service history) bill still came to over £1000.

Last week the engine started misfiring and low and behold the engine has ingested the swirl flap on the inlet manifold (new cylinder, piston head etc..), towed to BMW and have just been told it will need a brand new engine as too much damamge. (£6000)+(labour)+vat……

Should I go independent ex BMW garage to carry out the work or keep the car with BMW dealer? (or scrap it!!!!) BMW quoeted me £780 just to take the cylynder headd off and take a look to see what the damage was....!!!!!

Ouch. I feel for you.

Id suggest that clearly you have been unlucky and bought either a hammered one or a dog or just plain unlucky. Either way the repair costs now are beyond what the car is worth.

So the question is part x it against something else or ... um not sure.

You need to go for goodwill through BMW...its a known fault and the later manifolds are modified.....they should help you out as the mileage and service history are good....You may need to either talk to service manager, the area manager or go through customer services.

Most that we did when i was at dealer were 100 % goodwill.. It will be a new engine, not had one that hasnt needed new.

This is a known issue and they should help.

Hopefully you have a good dealer near by....there are some that dont like helping

Go for the good will. If you get no satisfaction, ask the dealer for the area manager/customer services.

After what build date did they change the inlet manifolds?

Indeedy,you might have to put a small ammout toward it but not much.

These engines are awful,the Manifold in question isnt even made by BMW.

Guys - thank you - I am sourcing ex BMW garage quotes, however, the resounding feeling by all these ex BMW garages I speak to is go for good will.

To be honest I dont have a choice.
