LPG conversions

Anyone have thoughts or experience on LPG converted BMWs?
From reading around, looks like a conversion would cost close on £3k for my E46. Having said that, it appears that you can buy already converted cars for not much more than the standard price.

Have to say that the LPG Jag I saw today piqued my interest.

You can get a decent conversion for £1500-2k. Where are you located as I maybe able to recommend someone?

BMW's are well suited to LPG and are not prone to the valve wear that affects Jap cars.

Both my brother and I run LPG BMW's and are happy with paying 49.9p per litre!

There is a guy called Mak_UK, i guess he'll be a member here, and he does LPG stuff, i think specialising on BMW's, but probably all makes.

He had his own 540 converted and it came out as pretty much the same power on either petrol or gas, which would be my main concern. It certainly opens up options for getting a BMW V12 as a considerably more economical toy

I am the other side of the country from you so my knowledge of installers around London is not great. However, I have heard good things on forums about http://www.gastech.org.uk. Should imagine they maybe a bit more expensive.

For reference I was quoted £1500 for a Romano kit for my 328.

A few useful facts about LPG that may help you - when sizing a tank remember you can only use 80% of it's capacity (so the gas can expand). Also when working out payback periods remember that you will lose about 20% of your fuel economy. Finally a properly setup system will perform as it does on petrol.
