where can i re-map my 328
Discussion
A friend and I did the "325i Inlet Manifold" mod last weekend.
The guy he bought the kit from reckoned it would take about 4 hours to install (Came with instructions). It actually only took a couple of numpties like us (well, like me anyway) about 2.5 hours having never done it before. I reckon if we did it again we could have done it in little over an hour.
It made a vast difference! Above 4000 rpm where the surge would normally be tailing off this was now pulling really hard all the way to the red.

Apparently the E36 328 had some type of deliberate handicap built into it for some reason (I can't remember the exact story - something to do with tax I think) and apparently undoing that handicap to put the 328 into its 'natural state' has a significant effect on its performance. It's not so much upgrading it as un-downgrading it!
heard about it too
has a smaller/restricted inlet manifold compared to the 325i, so fitting that one will increase power (this is only from what I have been told from a friend) to somewhere in the reigon of 220bhp, which seems interesting as the M54B30 (3.0 from the E46) only has 231bhp, makes you wonder about that one too.....perhaps thats a little optimistic but seems like a worthwhile mod to be honest, I like OEM+ stuff like this
but it will probably need a remap to make use of the better flowing intake

You need to get yourself onto E36coupe.com (now bmwowner.com and get in touch with Alpina527 on there - he sells the kit you need, which comprises a big bore throttle body and a modified M50 inlet manifold. Also get yourself an induction kit of some sort. That way you'll be up near 220bhp - you won't get much (if anything) from a remap.

That's who my friend got the kit from.If your car has Traction Control the kit cost a bit more as there's an extra bit of machined out throttle body for that too.
It really is pretty much plug 'n play.
I think the next thing he's getting is the DaveF Induction kit.
He'd also been told that apparently a re-map won't add much.
Got to be honest here - why bother spending cash on a car worth what? £2k if your lucky. Keep it as it is dont p^ss your money down the drain, You'll probably do it anyway and think its quicker but its the placeabo effect. You might only notice a fraction of a second on a lap and thats driving to the limitor every gear - your never going to be like that on the road.
I half agree.
Doing these mods will release a bit of power, but will also push that power further up the rev range. In normal day-to-day driving it won't be much different.
The cost of doing this is >£500 from memory, and when you look at the prices of M3s etc these days is it really that appealing? (Obviously that's a simplistic way to approach this)

Exactly - and as good as the 328i is the M3 is so much better. Doing these mods will release a bit of power, but will also push that power further up the rev range. In normal day-to-day driving it won't be much different.

If you want a faster car buy a fast car in the first place.
i guess buying an m3 also comes with more expenses other than the price of the car, for example insurance, maintenance etc.
as for the remap, your best option is inlet manifold, air box and remap. they drive alot better after the mod.
the 328's were restricted because they needed to be placed into a certain class or category. that is why if you look at audi's 2.8 of around the same era, it is also 193 hp.

Well there in lies the problem of course they cost more to own but they are miles faster + trust me if you modify the 328i your insurance will leap so its not so clear cut.as for the remap, your best option is inlet manifold, air box and remap. they drive alot better after the mod.

If the M3 is too much then buy a 330i.
