645Ci or 630i

Considering getting a 6 series now that they've come down into my price range and I was wondering which engine size to go for.
Is there a reason that BMW stopped producing the 645's?
They tend to be the lowest priced 6 series variable. Or should I maybe put a bit more cash in and get a 630i which is a year older but a smaller engine.
Is the only reason the 645ci's are cheaper due to people getting rid of them before the new road tax or are the newer engine just better than the old ones?

The 650i replaced the 645, just like the 550 replaced the 545.

IMHO I would have the 645, if only for the V8 noise.

My 645auto has just been taxed at £210. Next October (2009) the tax will be £300, the October after that (2010) it would be £455 if it were not going back to the lease company.

A 630auto would be the same apart from it would be £430 in 2010'. A 630 manual would be the same but £310 in 2010.

In other words there is nothing in it tax wise, more important would be the extra 5mpg if you do a lot of miles. I did look at 630's but they were much more expensive and 'basic', very short on optional extras. I do not do a lot of miles...

Someone I know went from a 2006 645i to a 2006 530i to try and save money and the 645i is doing 23mpg compared to the 26mpg he was getting from the 645i.
He does 25k miles a year and worked out it would take him 12 years to pay for the difference to change in fuel savings.

A good move!
