Can anyone clear this up for me?

Was the 525d touring e61 ever released with the 163bhp version of the engine? Or did it come out with the 177bhp version from the start?

Just been looking at a few early examples, and thought the 04 plate ones were only 163bhp, but I'm now being told it is a 177bhp engine in there...

Small differences I know, but still 10% extra power...

I didn't know there was a 163bhp version?? You sure you're not thinking of the 520d?? that was 163 and then went to 177bhp in sept 2007.


I thought the 525d was 177 when a 2.5 litre and 190 something bhp when it went to the 3.0 litre??

The 525d was 163bhp when it was in the E39 model, and I had thought that they carried over the same power when it went to E61, but maybe not...

That's good news as I wanted the more powerful motor and thought I had to find an 05 or late 54 plate... Looks like the new car may just have got cheaper...

Keep an eye on the price of the 530d too. There is quite a bit of overlap and price variance on these cars. You could find that what one dealer is charging for a 525d is what could buy you a 530d if you're prepared to travel a little.

I would either have a 520d or a 530d, to me the 525d is a little unloved.

I've got an '07 525 M Sport. I bought it just as the face lift came out so I got a great deal.

It has the 177bhp 2.5ltr six cyl engine in it, which has now changed to 3.0ltr in the face lift.

Sounds a lot smoother than the 4 pot 2.0ltr and now i've had it to DMS its pushing around 215bhp/360lbs, so its more than equal to a 530d.

I'm getting 42-44+ mpg on a motorway run and 33mpg local driving.

almack - I've just bought a 525d msport touring and was thinking about having DMS work it's magic on it.

How have you found living with it over the past few months? Any reliability concerns and does the engine really feel as strong as the suggested output?

BTW, although I'm considering the map upgrade primarily for more power, a MPG improvement would be a welcomed side benefit as I only saw 32mpg on a recent 500 mile round trip on the motorways.

Would also welcome thoughts from anyone else with experience of a DMS 525d remap...
