Evening Lads and Lasses. I will be selling my much loved 2000 540i Sport which missed the facelift by only a month, so it has the 4:3 monitor. Is it worth me forking out £300 for the wide-screen monitor. i have updated front and rear lights to post face-lift lights and the car has some fantastic refurbished 18" genuine Alpina wheels. its got 55'100 on the clock and with petrol prices improving a tad I would hope to get at least £6k? Oh and its getting the paintwork corrected (polished) professionally on Monday, so I reckon it will be a cracking example when its finally advertised.

Keep the screen, or go widescreen?? Or just keep the wallet shut and hope for the best. . .

If you have the Mk I sat nav, with the small screen and male voice, then its not just the screen you need to change. You'll need a new drive, a new cable... and then then the telly won't work!
I've just done this on my 750, but I'm happy enough because i'm keeping it.

I wouldn't bother, if necessary throw in a free TomTom with the deal. It will be cheaper... and much better. biggrin
Good luck with the sale, i'd be interested to hear what you get for it (the wife has one and we are thinking of changing it)

Its a MkII unit, as I quite enjoy getting lost and then listening to her sultry voice correcting me smile.

Ah, then you are right about only needing the new screen/head unit,(and possibly software upgrade) but i still wouldn't bother tbh. Good luck though chap smile

Just sell it for £300 less than you would with the Nav.
Let the buyer know how it can be done and the associated costs.

Still a new £99 Tom Tom will be miles better so a pointless upgrade - keep it std.

If it's a £6k car - I know it misses the £400 road tax, but I would be expecting a couple of grand less to actually sell it at the moment.

+1 its old now & its a big unit - ahem - but demand is rock bottom for these sorts of cars & long term we all are now starting to realise that fuel is going to go up in a big way & so is taxes to curb the bigger united cars.

Also with the recession coming home to roost who wants a car giving sub 20's combined... not many most will want very frugal small cars.

Sorry to go O/T -

I'm thinking about changing my E34 540i for an E39 version sometime soon. It sounds like you have a nice car (which is what I'm after). If you don't mind dropping me a line when you have it up for sale I'd be interested in having a look.

Some of you may have seen the pics of my car. Out of interest how much might my 18" Alpina wheels fetch if sold separately, and I replaced with some 18" M parallels (probably replicas). The Alpinas are as new (refurbed) with a single kerb mark on one of the rear rims. All wheels have brand new Faken 452's. Would it be worth the hassle? Given I might be hunting down an E39 530i Sport in May time, I may decide to hang on them to put on that car?!

If you looking for a 530i next year try to source one which is a sport far better wheels than std then no need to put those aftermarket wheels on it + far more desirable as a std motor.

Edited to add that it will definitely be a Sport. Not sure I agree with you about the wheels, as I tried to argue in LittleMidgetGem's thread. . ..smile
