Well I cant complain about that. Thank you BMW!

I have a z4 and 3 weeks ago the roof decided to pack up, well the hydraulic pub to be precise.
I had a root around the internet and found out it was a common fault with the early cars, water runs into the pump housing and fills it up so you can go a week with out it raining and still be in trouble.
Well I tore out the boot lining still couldn’t find the little sod, so back on the net and I find that you have to take the roof off to get to it! A job I was not really looking forward to.
So just on the off chance I took it to my local bmw dealer (in crewe) asked them if there had been any recalls - NO- but he said he could do an inspection on it at £109 and ask bmw if they would be willing to offer me any goodwill, he was also willing to leave it in bits for me to replace or rebuild if he could not get me any goodwill. (It was looking like it was going to take about 5 hours plus £270 for the new pump so I really needed that goodwill)
Well they had the car for a week doing god knows what I didn’t like to ask in case it cost me. Then I got a call from them saying bmw have got back in touch and they are willing to pay 100% of the parts and 100% labour, Fantastic the job took them another week but hay I cant complain I had been out of warranty for 6 months.
They didn’t change the time on the clock though

Good to hear, were there any warning signs it was going to go? Mine always sounds pretty noisy at the last stages of closing etc - or is it a TADTS case?
They generally stop working altogether...they are noisy anyway at fully open and close.Changed loads early on for water ingress..also not opening fully. The issue was the unit housing filling up with water because the drains were blocked...the water then fills up the recess and eventually the pump.
And for some reason I have ended up with a brand new one in a box complete with rams and pipes...no idea how though.
