Discussion
I've recently bought a 3G Apple iPhone and I'm hoping someone will be able to help with a couple of questions I have:
1) any idea when a snap in 'cradle' will be available? I know the 3G phone will just about fit into on of the old iPhone adaptors but it isn't ideal so a proper cradle would be better.
2) my phone pairs with the car but the phone book has not transferred. Anyone know if this is common to all BMWs or just those with older build dates (my E60 was Oct 2006)? If it is because I have an 'old' version of bluetooth can it be quickly (and reasonably inexpensively) updated?
Thanks

Still no word from BMW on when/if they'll be releasing an iPhone 3G cradle. I have the original cradle but use it VERY rarely as the 3G doesn't fit in very well and puts a large stress on the plastic casing of the 3G.richterswil said:

I am the author of the link posted above Fix for iPhone and BMW iDrive address book not synchronising and have a Dec-2005 E60 M5, I and many others had exactly the same problem as you with the phone book not transferring to the iDrive and adding 2000 fake contacts resolved this issue.Edited by scoopz on Monday 10th November 21:52

I have the same problem. My car is March 200, but the iDrive has the latest software.1) any idea when a snap in 'cradle' will be available? I know the 3G phone will just about fit into on of the old iPhone adaptors but it isn't ideal so a proper cradle would be better.

Scoopz - many thanks, I've been away and was about to do this but the latest Apple software is available and I've just downloaded it to my phone (v2.2). Having done this (and deleted and re-paired the devise) the contacts have all transferred.
Perhaps Apple have finally resolved this?
Summary: iPhone software version 2.2 works with my 2006 E60!

From the influx of comments on my blog it does appear that iPhone 2.2 update has resolved all the issues with contacts not sync'ing and bluetooth dropping with BMW Prof Radios and iDrives.
I've updated to 2.2 but my car has been with the dealer for an Oil Service and iDrive update but I'm hoping to pick it up later this morning and test it all out.
If this is the case then congrats to Apple for finally getting off their arses and sorting things out, it's only been 5 months!
