Can someone help with advise on a problem with my BMW 850 1991 The radio/ cassette turns on and will seak stations but no sound? All the fade and balance controls are at mid points but only a very faint sound on max volume.
Is there an amp somewhere which may have a blown fuse? The system is a factory std fitment no upgrade or aditions Any sugestions please

Don't know the answer to the question, sorry, but I was filling up at Hartley Wintney yesterday evening when an 850 pulled in behind me. Sounded great. Why would you want a stereo?! hehe

Incidentally, it seems that you must be proprietor of the establishment I walk past when I park up near Travis Perkins and catch the train to Waterloo from Petersfield - yes? wavey

The system on the 850 uses an amp module in the boot to actively drive the treble, mid and bass speakers using separate amps housed in one unit.
The location is in boot, mounted on the near side at the front of the boot (on the rear of the rear seats, if you get my meaning!).
There is a thumb screw that you loosen and the amp will flip down. The fault will either be a fuse or, possibly, the power supply in the amp will have packed in. They are prone to doing that! As far as I know, the module is unique to the 850 so happy hunting if you have to look for a spare.....

Depends which model radio/cassette unit was fitted, the "Professional" unit has the actual radio receiver section in the boot too. As Talkwrench points out though, the amplifier unit is fitted in the boot behind the turnbuckle panel. Good luck with your search, they do come up from time to time on the Fleabay but they're not cheap
