I'm trying to budget for my possible 130i.

I'm looking at 11k SEs and 13k M Sports. All with less than 30,ooo miles about 3 years old.

Question is how much would they be worth in 2 years' time (ie 5 years old) with an extra 14,00o miles?

Crystal ball really mate.

However you should always base a car purchase on the fact that it will be worth 50% at best in 3 years time - milage doesnt have that much impact to residual value i.e. a 100k+ car vs a 60k car the 2nd hand purchase price isnt as big as you would imagine

Honestly, if you're that worried about it i guess you haven't driven it. If you'd driven it you'd know if you could justify it or not.

You can't find a five year old 130 yet (started with 55 plates) and irrespective, what happens in the next two years for ANY car is anyone's guess. Do you think two years ago someone would have thought that you could buy a £65k BMW at 18 months old for £22k? Well you can right now, and i don't believe for a second the car market has bottomed out yet. It's going to get worse before it gets better.

My thinking exactly. I always estimate a 50% drop over a 3 year period after year one.

Actually the 130 is the "safe" bet - I'm trying to justify something rather more "classic" and interesting by off setting the extra servicing against the sensible 130's depreciation!
