Get a new/refurbed box then have a play around with your old one and a Haynes book.

That way it won't matter if you mess it up.

Change the gearbox oil if it hasn't been done recently, otherwise you should have no problem picking a replacement box up - try the e30zone.net for sale or wanted sections.

Had exactly same problem on rallycar, eventually i broke the selector fork with my gorilla hand and the selectors locked up and left me in neutral.

Have found that 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th syncros are the same so i was going to get the syncros out and use 4th and 5th in another box to replace 2nd and 3rd.

However when i started dismantling the box the bits of springs, roll pins and general stuff left me totally bemused and i bailed out.

If someone on here has some noddy instructions on how to replace syncros this would be really helpful and worthy of a sticky IMO.
