e39 speaker replacement options - think ones blown?!

I had an electrical smell in the car this morning followed by a constant whine from the drivers main door speaker when the stereo is turned on (no noise whrn the stereo is off) am I right to assume the speaker has blown? The volume was not up high when it happened.

im guessing I now need to replace both front speakers with a matching pair, I dont want to do anything clever, just looking for fit and forget that can be used in conjunction with the existing system and tweeters etc.

Whats the best to go for? The car is a 2000 e39 530 sport with BMW business stereo (cd changer in boot, tape up front)
