X6 3.5d Anyone got one? any good?
Discussion
Hi Rob
I bought my X6 3.5d in September and I have been absolutely delighted with it. It follows three different 5 series BMW's and therefore had a few tough acts to follow. Great drive and good position to drive from. Enough power but slower than an equivalent 5 series. The ride on the 20 inch rims is firm but it handles incredibly well - regardless of its size.
I went a bit mad on extras but have no regrets. The finish is excellent.
There are very few about and it does grab a lot of attention (positive rather than negative as some on here might have you believe).
There is a lot of space for 4 people plus luggage. My children are 20 and 18 so are not with us very often.
It tows a car trailer very well indeed.
Economy is worse than a 530d Auto. Commuting into London the 530d was giving 28mpg and the X6 is giving 22mpg. On a run, the 530d would break 40mpg the X6 gives about 27mpg.
Why buy it over a 5 series or an X5? The 5 series would be quicker and ultimately better handling, the X5 would be bigger. For me the X6 looks great and is different. It has all the driving qualities that BMW are renown for and is a fabulous daily workhorse.

There's a very amusing video on Drivers Republic of all their long term cars being taken round Curborough. The last one is an X6 Xdrive35d which looks the same as LondonGT3's car, clearly chipped (up to 320bhp apparently) and clearly quick too. Not sure I'd be happy with the engine noise, mind.

I will be replacing both the X3 & the Merc soon and i really fancy one of these?
Any thoughts?
P.s merry xmas to all
Well i don't own one but there's a 4.4 twin turbo coming out soon so I've been thinking about trading the 4.8 X5 in for that. Anyway i test drove the X6 petrol and was amazed. The X5 handles well, but wow the X6 handled amazingly. I think it had the suspension option on it though (whatever it';s called) so that is well worth getting if you buy one. Can't comment on the diesel, but the petrol wasn't that much slower than my 4.8 X5. It does have less room than the X5, but the way it handles and the looks (which granted aren't to everyone's taste, personally i love them) easily make up for it. Any thoughts?

As already said there are some good bargains out there at the moment so if i were you i would go for it.
Hope that helps

Do bear in mind though that even the cheapest 'bargain' x6 on BMW AUC is £38950, and thus still can drop like snow off a ditch.Hope that helps
These things are way out of favour and wont be on too many peoples 'used buy' list anytime soon.

I sold my e70 diesel x5 to a dealer (as a trade price as i didnt buy another car off them) back in may 07 for £41000. The cheapest on AUC now is £28990, so trade price is probably £25000. Theres a potential £16k bath in 9 months.
So in my experience with recent large BMWs, i would say, they are currently a risky buy at the price dealers are currently asking for x6's. If someone is happy with that potential then cool, but i dont think there are too many 'bargains' out there with x6's, given where they'll be in a year or two.
Sorry for being a realist.

There's now three pages of them under £40k on the AUC site, starting at £37k (probably £34k for cash!).
I'd be surprised if at the very cheapest price of one (actually £37850 for a petrol one) you're going to get almost £4K off.Its also a bit naive to imply the dealer will be keener to deal 'for cash', given they get a backhander on the finance.

Sorry, by 'cash' I meant no trade-in.

The X6 is a really nice car but its got to be a v niche market.
Low 30s you're gonna get a bargain.
When the market finally picks up there will be pent up demand for luxury motors and fewer on the market so in 2-3 years time when you come to sell on the X6 prices will be much more solid.
