My brother has a 05 plate 320D 150bhp touring and recently it seems to be down on power. He has had it into the dealers and they cant find a fault?

Anyway he has searched a few forums and people have mentioned EGR valves, air flow meters and glow plugs. The turbo is still boosting but not as much as is was.

Has anyone on here any ideas or had any simular issues.

Cheers

Air flow meter?

Happens on VAG diesel engines, could be the same on BMW diesels? Symptoms describe what happened with a knackered air flow meter on my dad's Skoda TDI and also my father-in=law's Seat.

Cheers Bufley, we tried this this morning and it seems to be the same. I could then assume that maybe it is knackered

didn't 320d's have an issue with turbo failure? not sure what symptoms were, but maybe worth doing some research on that?

The symptoms don't really sound like turbo failure - when they go they tend to let go big time.

I've heard some right old horror stories, turbo fails, oil gets sucked into the intake hoses, into the engine, down the manifold, destroys the cat. All of the above then need replacing, read on these forums someone had it done under warranty, but probable cost was into 5 figures.
