E46 tyre pressure monitor warning
Discussion
Afternoon,
The tyre pressure warning system on my 05 E46 M3 convertible decided to illuminate the red warning symbol. I checked the tyre pressures and all four were near enough spot on (in terms of being equal across the axles). I re-checked when cold and adjusted them so they are 100%. However, the red warning light keeps coming back. I've tried to re-calibrate the system as per the user manual but I don't think its working. It says to start the engine but before driving off, press the button until you get the yellow warning light displayed. You then drive off and after a while it should dissapear once the system is calibrated. However, the yellow light won't go away even after driving around 16 miles, mostly on the motorway. As soon as I start the car up the red sign comes back. Am I doing something wrong? I've re-checked the pressures yet again and they have not changed.
I havent curbed any of the wheels and I'm not aware of driving over any massive pot holes etc, is there anything else I can check? The car is under BMW warranty but I don't want the hassle of booking it in etc if its something silly I can do myself. Also, I'm wary of them trying to shaft me for something that isn't covered under warranty, eg maybe a wheel needs balancing, although I've had the car less than 2 months so I don't see how its something like that, but you know where I'm coming from. I don't want to have to pay £120 an hour labour for anything other than a service stamp.
Many thanks in advance!

There are sensors in each tyre with a battery. maybe the battery has gone?
Just a though.
Hello mate. I don't think it has batteries as it doesn't actually measure the tyre pressure, the system works by comparing the rolling radius of the tyres. If a tyre looses air it changes the rolling circumference, I believe the system works by somehow using the ABS sensors and some sort of toothed ring on the wheel hub, but I stand to be corrected.Just a though.
Had this with my 330ci, heading down to attend my dad's grave, ruddy red light flicks on indicating severe tyre pressure loss, pulled off the m-way, checked all four tyres, all fine. Still a bit nervous about carrying on so head home, check pressure's again, all fine.
Figured I would have to go to the stealers to reset, anyhow a day later I held down the tyre pressure button, the button you press to set up tyre deflation warning, I held it down for awhile and the display on the dash changed from red to yellow as the OP describes, if you continue to hold the button down, the yellow light winks out and you have effectively reset the system.
